Propane is an EPA-certified clean fuel, making it an ideal choice for fleets looking to reduce their environmental impact. “We chose propane because it’s a low-emission fuel that helps us meet our sustainability goals while saving money,” said Whitney Ehresman, CEO of Allegan County Transportation.

The U.S. produces more propane than any other energy source, which allows fleet operators like Allegan County Transportation to lock in stable, low fuel rates. The county reports that their current propane rate is 90% lower than what they would pay for gasoline. This significant price difference translates into tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars saved, all while using a cleaner, greener fuel.

Switching to propane has allowed Allegan County Transportation to cut costs on fuel and maintenance while avoiding the high volatility often seen with gasoline prices. “The initial investment might seem high, but the long-term savings are undeniable. We’re not just saving money—we’re investing in the future of our community,” Whitney added.

We started with just seven vehicles, and we’re planning to grow from there,” Whitney shared. With grant funding available to help offset the initial costs, the transition to propane becomes an even more attractive option.
